Paolo Shaul Levi, born in 1904 in Padua, had spent the last four months of his life as a free man in Chioggia, between August and autumn 1943, as a guest of the family of the baker Diomiro Toffoli between the current corso del Popolo. Paolo Shaul Levi, a Paduan Jewish intellectual arrested in Chioggia on 5 December 1943 and never returned from the Nazi extermination camp at Auschwitz. A Stumbling Stone in his honor was laid in Padua on 27 January 2022 during the Day of Remembrance
