Yellow vests protest in Paris and police intervention

Around 150 people belonging to the Yellow Vest movement gathered at the Place de la Republique in Paris to protest against the government and the policies of President Emmanuel Macron, in Paris, France, on September 10, 2022. The demonstration, which was initially supposed to take place at the Place de la Porte de Saint-Claud, was improvised, outside of an official declaration filed with the prefecture. In fact, the intervention of the police was practically immediate as soon as the demonstrators overturned and set fire to rubbish bins and damaged other elements of street furniture. About 40 people were quickly surrounded by the police and the BAC, the special anti-riot police corps. Mohammed, 23: We are in a country where the economy is struggling and the people are suffering. We are poor, we are not part of the wealthy class, some work, some do not. We know it well, France is the country of rights: we come as French citizens to demonstrate against increases in gas, food prices and many other things. We are here to make our voice heard. Mohammed, 23: If I am here today to testify and demonstrate, it is because I see that the world is going badly, I don't want to frighten anyone, but life is becoming more and more expensive, and those who have more money receive even more. So sure, we know you have to work and get the economy going, but just go and buy a bottle of water or a canned drink, it's not like before, the economy is in free fall in France and the whole of Europe is relying on France.
