On February 18, 2023, Hindu devotees in the Nagaon District of Assam, India waited in queues to offer prayers at the Maha Mrityunjay Temple on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. This annual festival is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and is particularly important in the Shaivism tradition. It falls on the 14th day of the dark fortnight of the Hindu month of Phalguna, which usually falls in late February or early March.
