The Fully Superconducting Tokamak Device (EAST) in Hefei, China

Video taken on March 11, 2023 shows the fully superconducting Tokamak Device (EAST) at the Hefei Institute of Physical Science under the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Hefei, East China's Anhui Province. The fully superconducting Tokamak nuclear Fusion Experimental Facility (EAST), known as the Artificial Sun, works by adding a small amount of hydrogen isotope deuterium or tritium into the vacuum chamber of the facility, which generates plasma through the principle of transformer, and then increases its density and temperature to make it undergo fusion reaction, which will produce enormous energy. On September 28, 2006, the first round of physical discharge experiment of the world's first fully superconducting non-circular section Tokamak nuclear fusion experimental device was successful, marking that China stands at the forefront of the world's nuclear fusion research. In February 2016, China's EAST Physics experiment achieved a major breakthrough, achieving the longest lasting plasma discharge with electron temperature of 50 million degrees in the world. On November 12, 2018, Hefei Institute of Physical Science of Chinese Academy of Sciences learned that EAST achieved a plasma operation of 100 million degrees Celsius and other major breakthroughs.
