Historical Place of Alipur Jail Museum

The Alipore Jail Museum, located in the heart of Kolkata, is currently being restored to its original glory, thanks to the efforts of the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO). The museum, which houses 116-year-old records, is now open to the general public. Architect Partha Ranjan Das is overseeing the conservation efforts. The museum's significance is heightened by the fact that prominent national figures such as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Rishi Aurobindo, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and Bidhan Chandra Roy were once imprisoned here. The museum is sharing the poignant stories of Indian freedom fighters. The national historical landmark was officially opened by the Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, on September 21. Since September 23, it has been accessible to the general public. The Alipore Jail Museum includes gallows, a watch tower, special cells, general cells, a library, a seminar hall, a light and sound show, and exhibitions.
