French President Macron received Irish PM Varadakar

The President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron received the Taoiseach, Mr. Leo Varadakar, Head of Government of Ireland, on Sunday October 15th at the Elysée Palace. Following the press release fron the Elysee Palace, the two leaders discussed current European issues, notably the response to the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel, continued European support for Ukraine, issues linked to reindustrialization, competitiveness and energy, as well as the longer-term challenges of enlargement and reform of the European Union. They have also exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, following on from the visit of the French President Emmanuel Macron to Ireland in August 2021. Macron and the Varadakar have also reviewed their shared commitment to global issues, including the Paris Pact for People and Planet, which France and Ireland support to combat poverty, climate change and the preservation of biodiversity. This meeting took place the day after the Rugby World Cup quarter-final between Ireland and New Zealand in Saint-Denis. Paris, 15 October, 2023.
