Hokarsar Wetland in the outskirts of Srinagar, Indian Administered Kashmir

A view of encroached area of Hokarsar wetland in Srinagar. The Hokersar wetland, which was once known as the 'Queen of Wetlands' is on the brink of extinction due to pollution encroachment activities. And it spreads over 1,375 hectares (13.75 km2), which designate bird sanctuary. It is a pathway of 68 waterfowl species like Large Egret, Great Crested Grebe, Little Cormorant, Common Shelduck, Tufted Duck and endangered White-eyed Pochard, coming from Siberia, China, Central Asia, and Northern Europe. It is in deteriorating condition due to land filling and pollution coming from hospitals which includes, plastic items.
