International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is an international holiday celebrated on January 27 each year as a day to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust. It was designated by resolution 60/7 of the United Nations General Assembly of 1 November 2005, during the 42nd plenary meeting. It was decided to celebrate the Day of Remembrance every January 27 because on that day in 1945 the troops of the Red Army, engaged in the Vistula-Oder offensive in the direction of Germany, liberated the concentration camp of Auschwitz. In Padua on January 27, 2022 in the courtyard of the Municipality of Palazzo Moroni, a delegation formed by the Mayor Sergio Giordani, Giuliano Pisani and Gianni Lunch (president of the Jewish community) commemorated the victims of the holocaust.
