Women and LGBTQ activists gathered for a demonstration for International Women's Day, on March 8, 2022 in Istanbul, Turkey. The police banned the march and blockaded the Istiklal Avenue earlier today. The government also shut the Taksim metro stations to stop protesters from reaching the area. During the action, the crowd protested violence against women and Turkey's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention. The police intervened with tear gas during the demonstration to stop the crowd from marching.
