Dog-day cicada newly emerged from its nymphal skin in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on August 16, 2021. Before a cicada becomes an adult and sheds its skin it tries to find a plant where it attaches itself with its claws. Many times their nymphal skin will remain attached to a plant long after the cicada has hatched.
