Russia says no Christmas ceasefire in Ukraine

This week, Moscow stated that there would be no “Christmas ceasefire” in Ukraine. Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24th, tens of thousands of people have been killed, millions have been displaced, and cities have been turned to rubble. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed that Russia begin withdrawing from his country by Christmas as a step to end the conflict, but Moscow rejected the suggestion, insisting that Ukraine must accept the loss of territory to Russia before any progress can be made.
