The Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) has started a protest at the UN office in Thunmulla, Sri Lanka, on January 16, 2022. They are moving forward to Kollupitiya, where riot police have used tear gas to disperse the protesters. The protesters have then moved forward to the University of Visual Arts, where riot police have again used tear gas and water cannons. Around 1000 protesters have gathered for this protest, demanding the release of Wasantha Mudalige, the IUSF convener, and a reduction in taxes and electricity bills in Colombo.
