The death toll from the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria continues to worsen. There are 21,719 deaths caused by the quake that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan referred to as the "disaster of the century". In Turkey, there are 18,342 victims and in Syria, there are 3,377. Meanwhile, after the disaster, the United States announced that they have temporarily suspended some economic sanctions against the Syrian government.
