On Sunday, the death toll from the earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey earlier this week rose to over 33,000, according to local authorities. Turkey reported 29,605 fatalities, with over 90,000 injured, while Syria reported a minimum of 3,500 casualties. In response to the disaster, Turkish authorities launched investigations into the construction of the thousands of buildings that collapsed and arrested over 100 suspects, as announced by the country's Vice President Fuat Oktay.
