On February 14, 2023, the administration conducted a drive to remove encroachments from the Burachapori Wildlife Sanctuary in the Sonitpur District of Assam, India. A large number of security personnel were deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incidents. According to official sources, around 5,000 bighas of land are currently under encroachment in the sanctuary.
