According to the Ministry of Water Resources, 50 rivers in nine provinces, including Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Hunan, Fujian, Guizhou and Chongqing, have been flooded by two heavy rains south of the Yellow River since late June. As of June 30, 1,564 large and medium-sized reservoirs in the Yangtze River, Huaihe River, Pearl River, Songliao and Taihu basins had held up a total of 20.7 billion cubic meters of flood water since the flood season, reducing the flooding of 235 cities and towns, reducing the flooding of 854,100 mu of arable land, and avoiding the relocation of 378,200 people.
