Flash Floods Ravage Indian State of Assam: Over 340,000 Residents Affected

Villagers use a boat to traverse a flooded region following heavy rains in the Morigaon district of Assam, India, on August 31, 2023. Meanwhile, Assam's overall flood situation remains grim, with the deluge affecting over 341,000 people spanning 22 districts. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) states that floodwaters have engulfed 818 villages in 52 revenue circles and inundated approximately 22,000 hectares of cropland. In the affected areas, the district administration has set up 153 relief camps and distribution centres. Floods and landslides occur frequently in Assam, mainly due to the annual monsoon showers.
