On October 20, 2023, mahouts alongside their elephants prepared to welcome tourists at the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary situated in the Morigaon district of Assam. The sanctuary, recognized for having the densest population of the one-horned rhinoceros, was inaugurated by the Assam forest minister, Chandramohan Patowary. Pobitora, a mere 48 km away from Guwahati in Assam, serves as an ideal spot for wildlife aficionados and those passionate about nature. This sanctuary was designated as a reserved forest in 1971 and later declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1987. Apart from its famous rhinoceros population, Pobitora also shelters around 2000 migratory birds and an array of wild animals including leopards, wild boars, elephants, barking deer, and wild buffaloes, among others.
