People buy Banana trees for the Hindu festival Diwali or festival of light in a roadside market in Guwahati on Nov 12 ,2023 . As part of post-Diwali disposal this year, Assam has decided to use banana plants and leaves as fodder for elephants or compost meant for agricultural purposes.The initiative is part of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ ‘Swachh Diwali, Shubh Diwali’ campaign across the country, under which cities are focusing on celebrating the festival of lights in an eco-friendly manner
