Peshawar High Court grants transit bail to PTI's Zartaj Gul

On Wednesday night, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) in Peshawar, Pakistan, on January 4, 2023, is approving a transit bail for Zartaj Gul, a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), after much commotion within the court premises. "It is not our tradition to arrest a woman," remarks PHC Chief Justice (CJ) Mohammad Ibrahim Khan during the hearing, expressing his disappointment over the heavy police presence outside the court. The court is preventing the police stationed outside from arresting the former federal minister after she fervently pleads against her potential arrest. Zartaj Gul is breaking down in tears, apologizing for the riots on May 9. The former minister is expressing her fear of arrest by the police and is refusing to leave the court premises until her bail is approved.
