Monkeys at the Jatayu Rama Temple at the Jatayu Earth Center in Chadayamangalam, Kerala, India, on April 06, 2024. The sculpture of Jatayu near the temple is the world's largest bird sculpture. According to legend, Jatayu was a demi-god in the Hindu epic Ramayana who had the form of a vulture. When the demon king Ravana was attempting to abduct Sita to Lanka Jatayu tried to rescue her. Jatayu fought valiantly with Ravana but Ravana soon defeated him, clipping his wing. Jatayu fell onto the rocks in Chadayamangalam. It is said that this is the very rock on which Jatayu fell.
