The Spanish Civil Guard detained on September 23, 2019 in the province of Barcelona nine members of the Defense Committees of the Republic (CDR), a collective of radical independence activists, who allegedly stored material to make explosives and had "advanced" plans to attack the next few weeks, as reported by the Prosecutor of the National Court. The operation was led by Judge Manuel García-Castellón, who has been investigating them for more than a year and provisionally charged them with terrorism, rebellion and possession of explosives. Two of the detainees were released.
