Prime Minister Modi suggested designating a global day to commemorate yoga in his 2014 speech to the UN (United Nations) General Assembly. The UN General Assembly overwhelmingly approved a resolution in December 2014 designating June 21st as the International Yoga Day, recognizing the appeal of yoga to all people.
