Folk arts and crafts occupied a conspicuous position in the life of the rural people of Bengal. Though customs, beliefs, and rituals varied widely, traditional story-telling, dancing, singing, festivities and ceremonies along with processions and social gatherings were universally prevalent. Folk Culture of West Bengal reflects the rich cultural heritage of the state. "Ranpa" Fast walk equipment - This equipment known as “Ranpa” is an artificial leg by which villagers can move fast from one place to another. With this equipment, Ranpa's special kind of dancing phenomenon observed in India has its roots in martial arts. In this dance, the artists walk and dance perform mock fights, and exhibit complex skills, found in Bengal a state of India. This is a typical dance of the Mundari clan. Only the male artists take part in this dance and have to work hard during the dance. The artists stand up on a ladder to dance and have chances of falling down if they lose their concentration. These artists are young and wear 'dhuties', red napkins, red tape on the forehead, and stalking on feet during performances. Musical instruments used here are 'madal' and 'dhamsas'.
