Jalebi Sweet - Traditional Indian Food

Jalebi is a popular sweet snack enjoyed in South and West Asia, Africa, and Mauritius. It is known by various names, including jilapi, zelepi, jilebi, jilipi, zulbia, jerry, mushabak, z’labia, and zalabia. The South Asian variety is made by deep-frying a batter of maida flour (also known as plain or all-purpose flour) into pretzel or circular shapes, which are then soaked in sugar syrup. Jalebi is commonly eaten with curd or rabri (a sweetened milk dish) in North India, and it can be flavored with optional additions such as kewra (scented water). An example of its preparation can be seen in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, where hot jalebis are being made at a village fair on December 29, 2024.
