Over 220,000 without power in Ontario as ice storm moves through the province

Branches and buds on a maple tree are being encased in ice during an ice storm caused by freezing rain in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on March 30, 2025. Environment Canada is issuing a 'freezing rain warning' for Toronto early Sunday as the city is expecting to see ice build-up between three to five millimetres. Over 220,000 customers are without power in Ontario due to the ice storm. Hydro One, the provincial utility, is indicating that the outages are being concentrated in central Ontario, from Tobermory and Gravenhurst to Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes.
