Asian tiger mosquito - Aedes albopictus - Mosquito bites

Aedes albopictus, also known as the Asian tiger mosquito or forest mosquito, is a species of mosquito in the Culicidae family. This mosquito is native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Southeast Asia. The adult Asian tiger mosquito measures less than 10 mm (0.39 in) in length and is characterized by its distinctive black and white pattern. The insect is called a tiger mosquito as it has stripes, as does a tiger. Aedes albopictus is a key vector for numerous viral pathogens, including yellow fever, dengue, and Chikungunya, as well as filarial nematodes like Dirofilaria immitis. It can also host the Zika virus. Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) began its blood meal from humans in Tehatta, West Bengal, India on 30/05/2025.
