Abandoned-web Orb-weaver (Parawixia Dehaani) Hunted Great Eggfly Butterfly - Animal India

Abandoned-web orb-weaver (Parawixia dehaani), also known as the common garden spider, is a species of orb-weaver spider that belongs to the family Araneidae, distributed across Australasia and eastern Asia. This spider hunts by constructing a vertical orb web, which it uses to detect prey that lands or moves nearby. Parawixia dehaani utilizes its senses of sight, vibration, and touch to effectively target insects such as flies, butterflies, and bees, some of which may be larger than the spider itself. A spider has caught a Great Eggfly or Blue Moon (Hypolimnas Bolina) butterfly with its web, and is killing it by bundling it with its saliva or silk at Tehatta, West Bengal, India on 24/05/2025.
