An abandoned-web orb-weaver (Parawixia dehaani), also known as the common garden spider, is hunting by constructing a vertical orb web to detect prey that lands or moves nearby. Parawixia dehaani is utilizing its senses of sight, vibration, and touch to effectively target insects such as flies, butterflies, and bees, some of which may be larger than the spider itself. The spider is catching a Great Eggfly or Blue Moon (Hypolimnas Bolina) butterfly with its web and is killing it by bundling it with its saliva or silk in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on May 24, 2025.
