August 1st, 2025 marks 81 years since the start of the Warsaw Uprising (also known as the August Uprising), in which resistance fighters from the Home Army launched an operation against Nazi German occupation forces near the end of World War II. The battles lasted 63 days and ended with the defeat of the Polish army and a near-total destruction of Warsaw.
