The Bengal monitor, also known as the common Indian monitor (Varanus bengalensis), is a large, primarily terrestrial monitor lizard that measures between 61 and 175 cm in length. These lizards are carnivorous and non-poisonous. Although the Bengal monitor is protected under Schedule I of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, they are frequently killed for their meat, blood, and oil, which are often used in traditional remedies for various ailments.
