Housefly larvae, or maggots, are feeding on rotten potatoes in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on September 1, 2025. Flies are being attracted to decaying organic matter, such as spoiled vegetables, where they are laying their eggs. These eggs are hatching into small white worm-like insects known as maggots, which are feeding on the decaying material and can act as vectors by consuming pathogens from contaminated environments. After a period of feeding, the maggots are pupating and eventually developing into adult flies.
