This process involves the rhythmic contraction and relaxation of both circular and longitudinal muscles within the earthworm's body segments. These muscle contractions create waves of movement, while tiny bristles called setae anchor the worm to the soil, allowing it to crawl forward. Here, an earthworm is crawling across the wet floor during the rainy season while trying to climb a slope.
