Monkey puzzle butterfly - Rathinda amor - Animal India - 10/30/2025

The Monkey puzzle butterfly (Rathinda amor) is belonging to the Lycaenidae family and is found in the jungle areas of moderate to heavy rainfall regions of South Asia, including India and Sri Lanka. Its name is coming from its unique defense mechanism, where it is wiggling its tail-like filaments to confuse predators into thinking the filaments are its head. It is having a weak flight and is staying close to the ground. When it is landing, it is performing a "monkey puzzle" dance, turning around, sidestepping, and waggling its tail filaments to mislead predators about the location of its head. A monkey puzzle butterfly (Rathinda amor) is sitting on a leaf in a forest in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on October 30, 2025.
