Indian Grey Mongoose Mother - Deforestation - Environmental Issues - 09/11/2025

The Indian grey mongoose, also known as the Asian grey mongoose, is a species native to the Indian subcontinent and West Asia, found in open forests, scrublands, and cultivated fields, often close to human habitation. It is bold and inquisitive but wary, seldom venturing far from cover. Its prey includes rodents, snakes, birds' eggs and hatchlings, lizards, and a variety of invertebrates. A mother Indian grey mongoose, alarmed by the sound of trees being cut down in the forest, is bringing her cubs to play in a grassy field. She is teaching them how to hunt and find food. The mother is often looking around with curious eyes or standing on her hind legs in a defensive posture in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on September 11, 2025.
