Members of the Christian community are taking part in a peace rally in Kolkata, India, on January 20, 2026, amid growing concerns over attacks on churches and minority institutions across the country. Speaking on Monday, the moderator of the Church of North India (CNI) is saying such incidents are making Christians feel increasingly insecure and is calling on governments to strongly condemn all acts of violence against minority communities. “Christians feel safe in Bengal, but we are deeply concerned about the violence being reported from other states,” says the Most Reverend Paritosh Canning, moderator of the CNI, bishop of the Calcutta diocese, and president of the Bengal Christian Council.
