Panchu Dola Melana Festival in Odisha

Devotees carry idols of gods and goddesses through the waters of Chilika Lake during the 150-year-old Panchu Dola Melana festival in Parikuda village, southern Odisha, on March 9, 2026. The island tradition brings together deities from 23–24 villages in a historic water procession, celebrating faith, unity, and devotion to Radha-Krishna beyond Dola Purnima. Panchu Dola Melana (or Panchu Dola Mulana) is a traditional spring-time Odia Hindu festival celebrated after Dola Purnima (the full moon around Holi). It features a congregation (melana) of deities from many local temples carried in decorated palanquins (called vimanas/dolas) with devotees, music, colors, and ritual celebration.
