Ajodhya Hills - Indian Plateau - Ipomoea Carnea (Pink Morning Glory)

Ipomoea carnea, or pink morning glory flowers, and Chromolaena odorata (Siam weed) bloom by the edge of the swamp at Sirkabad, Purulia, West Bengal, India, on January 11, 2026. Ajodhya Hills in Purulia is a small, rocky, table-topped plateau and a residual hill range, acting as the easternmost extension of the Chota Nagpur Plateau and Dalma Hills. Situated at an average altitude of 600-700 meters, it features undulating terrain, deciduous forests, and deep river valleys, and is part of the Eastern Ghats range. One of the primary rivers flowing is the Bandu River, a key scenic water body in this rural, hilly region. Ipomoea carnea is a bushy plant with heart-shaped leaves, but its seeds are toxic to cattle and can cause various health issues, including endocrine and gastrointestinal problems, as well as embryonic abnormalities. A few years ago, this place was not particularly developed; however, due to the influx of tourists, roads and bridges have been constructed, and—driven by the surrounding development and the construction of permanent structures—brick kilns have also sprung up.
