Newly ordained hill tribe Buddhist monks pay respects after receiving the precepts from senior monks during a mass Buddhist monk ordination ceremony for hill tribe men at Wat Benchamabophit Dusitwanaram, also known as the Marble Temple, in Bangkok, Thailand, on July 12, 2026. This year, ahead of the three-month Buddhist Lent beginning on July 30, a total of 232 hill tribe men and boys from northern Thailand traveled to Bangkok to be ordained as Buddhist monks and novices. In Thailand, it is a traditional rite of passage for Buddhist men to ordain as monks at least once in their lives.
