An Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus), also known as the Stegomyia albopicta or forest mosquito, rests on a leaf after drinking a blood meal from a human body in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on September 5, 2025. The species exhibits aggressive biting behavior towards humans and prefers to live in close proximity to people and animals. Female mosquitoes require blood to produce eggs and seek water sources to lay them after feeding. The Asian tiger mosquito is a known vector for yellow fever, dengue, chikungunya, Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), West Nile virus, and Zika virus.
