The Buck Moon - July Full Moon - Cultural and Spiritual Significance

The July Full Moon, known as the 'Buck Moon' in Native American tradition, coincides with Guru Purnima and the Full Moon Day of Waso. Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains celebrate Guru Purnima to honor spiritual teachers, while the event marks the start of the rainy season retreat in Myanmar and other Buddhist traditions, commemorating major milestones in the life of Buddha. The Buck Moon is named because male deer begin regrowing their velvety antlers at this time of year, symbolizing strength, growth, and personal renewal. It is also called the Thunder Moon due to frequent thunderstorms during hot summer days in July. The moon is seen rising through black storm clouds, date palm tree branches, electric wire, and human construction, with a lunar corona also visible due to the cloud, in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on July 29, 2026.
