The Sivok–Rangpo railway bridge is under construction on a dry riverbed in Sikkim, India, on April 19, 2026. Sikkim is set to receive its first-ever railway connection through the Sivok–Rangpo line, ushering in a new era of commerce, mobility, and integration for India's northeastern region, particularly for Sikkim. This historic railway project will place the Himalayan state of Sikkim on India's railway map. Sikkim is the only state in India without an operational railway network or an active train station. The Sivok-Rangpo line spans 44.96 kilometers and is a broad-gauge railway connecting Sivok in West Bengal to Rangpo in Sikkim. The project includes 14 tunnels and 23 bridges and is expected to cost over ₹7,800 crore, with a target completion date of December 2027. Due to the steep Himalayan mountains and deep valleys, the line was mainly designed to navigate through tunnels and over bridges. This new railway connection will provide reliable access for Sikkim.
