People attend a ceremony honoring Yevhen Konovalets at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Kyiv, Ukraine, on August 15, 2026. Konovalets, the founder of the Ukrainian Military Organization (UVO) and a co-founder and first leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), was assassinated by Soviet secret services in Rotterdam in May 1938. His remains were returned to Ukraine on August 13, 2026, and will be reburied at the National Military Memorial Cemetery in Kyiv.
