Land Slug Moving on the Floor and Eating Moss - Animal India

A land slug appears as an elongated, soft-bodied, shell-less gastropod mollusk with a smooth, leather-like mantle covering the upper surface, with visible sensory tentacles on the head. Found in damp, humid environments, gardens, or concrete surfaces, particularly during the rainy season. Slugs' bodies are made up mostly of water and, without a full-sized shell, their soft tissues are prone to desiccation. They move on one muscular foot, using thick slime to stay wet, and breathe through a small hole on the side of their body. Terrestrial slugs are nocturnal; most species are generalists, feeding on a broad spectrum of organic materials, including leaves from living plants, lichens, mushrooms, and even carrion. Some slugs are predators and eat other slugs, snails, or earthworms. Land slugs crawl on the floor of a house; some of them feed on moss in a swamp following rainfall at Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on June 20, 2026.
