NEPAL: Turbulent Trishuli River Rapids Carve Eroded Sandbanks and Sediment Beds

Fast-flowing, muddy rapids of the swollen Trishuli River surge past heavily eroded silt terraces, sandbars, and deposited flood debris in Trishuli, Nuwakot District, Nepal, on August 31, 2026. Extreme flood discharges and high sediment loads triggered by an upstream glacial collapse on Langtang Lirung carved new river channels, eroded structural retaining banks, and significantly elevated the riverbed with thick alluvial silt across the Trishuli basin.
