A powerful flash flood originating in Tibet, China, swept into Nepal on August 26, 2026, causing widespread destruction along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river corridors. The sudden surge of water and debris damaged and destroyed roads, bridges, homes, vehicles and other infrastructure. As of August 31, 903 people have been confirmed dead and 4,247 people remain missing, according to Nepal’s latest official disaster figures. Rescue and recovery teams continue to search through debris and river channels for survivors and missing people, while families wait anxiously for information about their loved ones.
