Wildfires in South Sumatra, Indonesia, have expanded as the region enters the peak of the dry season, with the affected area increasing sharply from 664.8 hectares between January and June 2026 to 1,926.2 hectares by July, according to data from Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry and BRIN. Ogan Komering Ulu recorded the largest burned area at 516 hectares, followed by Banyuasin, Ogan Ilir, and Ogan Komering Ilir.
