Assyrian Community Back To Home - Islamic State Conflict

Hundreds of Assyrian Christians who fled as Islamic State took over Qaraqosh 2 years and 3 months ago were greeted with a new 30 CM cross in the cities town centre to welcome back the population, in Qaraqosh, Iraq on May 2, 2017. Today was considered the official day by the Assyrian church in Iraq when the community in Qaraqosh could return safely to their homes. Thousands of Assyrians had to flee the horrific Islamic State and build up a community in camps around Ainkawa Kurdistan, now many want to return to rebuild their community they were forced to leave. Many important Assyrian clergy were at this very important celebration addressing the community and welcoming in the new cross as a symbol of hope in the future. SOS relief and Assyrian youth donated their time in to building the 30 CM cross. They also marched to celebrate the start of the rebuilding of the first home in Qaraqosh.
