Journalist Pavel Sheremet, 44, who worked in Ukrayinska Pravda online newspaper, died in a car explosion in downtown Kyiv on 20 July 2016. On 12 December , 2019 the Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that the National Police investigators have detained suspected in the murder of journalist Pavel Sheremet.
