On Saturday, August 22, 2020, surfers participated in a ‘paddle out’ in Rockaway Beach to memorialize, celebrate, and honor the lives of those impacted by systemic racism and police brutality. Participants started at Beach 73rd Street and paddled for 13 blocks where they celebrated with chants and meditation. The event was organized by the Black Surfing Association.
